Maria Hendershott; Raymond James; Houston, Texas

A claim was recently filed on behalf of clients of Maria Hendershott, who is a registered stockbroker with Raymond James in Houston, Texas. The clients allege that she overconcentrated their accounts in oil and gas company stocks and similar investments. Hendershott allegedly convinced the clients to transfer their retirement money to Raymond James, where she began wholesale changes of the client’s accounts. She then concentrated them in volatile energy positions causing large damages to the value of the client’s portfolio in a short period of time. She placed nearly all of their money in volatile energy stocks which subsequently lost a substantial portion of their money in a matter of months. The investments included multiple exchange traded funds (ETFs) and other investments based upon the energy market. This is not typically suitable for clients such as hers who wanted low-risk investments, as they were looking to retire in a few months. Raymond James may be liable for losses because the firm failed to reasonably supervise Ms. Hendershott.
